So everyone who knows me, knows that I love plants. However, I find that the decorative pots are pricey and after buying a few $25 pots it dawned on me that I can customize my own pots for much less! I found different size clay pots in Home Depot for $5-$10 each, depending on the size. Check them out here Clay pots @ Home Depot. I used the same primer and paint that I used in my Cosmopolitan Customizing: TV Trays post, Martha Stewart Living primer and sealer and various Behr paint samples.
I decided to paint the first clay pot Pearldrop (a creamy white color) and used the primer/sealer first and then painted 2 layers of paint. Once the paint dried overnight, I painted another coat of primer/sealer.
I decided that I wanted to “jazz-up” the other pot so I decided to use the ombré technique using the Behr sample in Sweet Rhapsody (the same turquoise I used to paint the display case). In order to get the ombré effect, I used the Pearldrop color mixed with the turquoise to make two lighter shades. I used painters tape to separate each section. Check out my pictures below and let me know what you think! Have you made anything ombré in your home?
Before customizing! The teracotta color was ok, but not what I wanted.
After customizing! The white pot looks better!
